Objectives

The Watermill Theatre’s purpose is to create great shows that audiences love. The theatre required a movable gangway bridge so that the engineers could access the lighting and sound equipment in the ceiling safely.

Solutions

  • Design the safety system
  • Fabricate and install the safety system
  • Install fabricated steelwork and Harken Rail system
  • Create operating procedures
  • Carry out on-site training

The first step of this project was to fabricate a steel framework that would serve as the base for the moving bridge. This was no easy feat, as the framework had to be strong enough to support the weight of the lighting and rigging equipment yet light enough to be moved around easily. The team worked tirelessly, meticulously designing and welding the framework to ensure its stability and durability.

Once the framework was completed, the next step was to install the Harken rail system. This system consists of a series of tracks and trolleys that allow the lighting and rigging equipment to move smoothly and effortlessly along the bridge. The team carefully measured and installed the Harken rail system, ensuring that it was perfectly aligned and balanced.

The final stage of the project was the installation of the moving bridge itself. This was the most challenging part, as the team had to carefully manoeuvre the steel framework and Harken rail system into place. With precision and expertise, they were able to successfully install the bridge, creating a seamless connection between the stage and the lighting and rigging equipment.

Result

The Theatre are now delighted to have:

  • Safe access to the lighting and sound equipment
  • Suitable gangway bridge to place replacement equipment and tools and be used for other maintenance requirements
